MGMT hit the Liquid Rooms on Friday on the back of the sort of hype that is now synonomous with any indie outfit hailing from New York. Some of the hype was (justifiably) unjustified, due to some lukewarm live shows and a debut album that confused and enthused in equal measure. Friday however showed what was good and great about this electro/indie duo. A packed house, a wall of noise and some extremely funky attire all contributed to a memorable night in the capital. The 5 piece touring band seem to have gelled sufficiently to know what each other is thinking and where the groove is taking them and that was the key ingredient to this performance. "Time to Pretend", the obvious crowd pleaser was epic. Snarling synths combined with effortless cool and incindiary guitar let the song grow far beyond it's humble album manifestation. Other favourites such as "Kids" and "Weekend Wars" set the tone for a really great gig and we look forward to them coming back to Edinburgh very very soon. 4/5 |

Red Hot Chilli PipersWent to this with an open mind. My friend got their album for Christmas and we heard that they had won "live act of the year" It was more than just music, it was more like a show. From start to finish. The lighting was powerfull as was the playing. A must see. So glad I went. Not just talented but extremely good looking men too, and with kilts......girls, its just perfect. The best night out I've had in a long time. Can't wait to see them again. |

LuvelyLuvely used to be the best night I went to, I am a member also. I looked forward to it every month, however the last time i went (Probably about 2 years ago) the place was over taken by butician/hairdresser wannabes and gay guy wannabes, i'm all for sharing is caring but on one perticular occasion, i was standing in the toilet Q and a group of girls looked me up and down, sniggered and said 'Total lesbian' It made me feel really small and in retrospect should never feel that small in a club i'm supposed to feel comfortable in. So unfortunatly i have never been back. It's a real pitty as i raved on about that night to all my friends and converted them as well. Please sort it out as i ADORED Luvely. Thanks.
