OptimoJust looking up date of next Optimo at Caberet Voltaire in Edinburgh - can't wait - and noticed no one had reviewed it ? Never written a review before but here I go . . . All I can say is I have clubbed in Edinburgh for a good 20 yrs and can't believe i'd never gone to Optimo up until a year ago. It is one of the best monthly Saturday club nights on offer i reckon. Changed Days for me. . . I actually turn up early so as not to miss any of the excellently mixed tunes that are served up tight as and absolutely sizzling by guys that make me wish I had studied the art of D.jing . Don't want to start naming the tunes incase your like ' what ! ' but you will dance till you drop then beg for more. they'll play tunes you know, tunes you don't know, tunes you think you know, tunes you've known for a long time and almost forgotten and tunes you'll be shocked your dancing to but you will be and you'll be loving it ! each and every one of them mixed to perfection . . . an auditory delight. I love it love it love it. Only down side - for the promoters - is I don't go in a big group I go with a friend who I know will just dance all night and not want to chat.Venue is excellent too with the mainroom banging or the backroom that I have never actually made it to yet or the Speakeasy where you can sit and chill and watch it all going on on plasma screens - don't go there either on an Optimo night. So far this is the only thing that can stop me smoking for 4or 5 hours at a time apart from sleep ! so that's another plus. Oh and by the way did I say how much I love it. |

Capstin Pole ::A MUST SEE LIVE Capstin Pole.......what can we say....this band HAS to be seen Live...their demo do them no justice....they came ...they played their hearts out and proved without a shadow of a doubt their place, not just at the festival, but also in the freeserve comp...so if you haven't checked out the email about this competition ~ please do so and see what you think yourself. This Livi Band blew everyone in The Ferns away....if you didn't manage to make it ~ keep your ears peeled for the next time they play live......it'll be well worth the effort....they have the potential to go all the way...!capstin pole single review singles round up The first singles roundup of the summer is usually brought to you by the words 'shimmery', 'jangly' and 'harmony', and although it's essentially a vitriolic, while unsigned Gorebridgians Capstin Pole have bottled the sound of a teenager going clubbing for the very first time on their wide-eyed disco choon 'In the Way You Move' (5 Stars)(Great track) capstin pole gig review EMERGENZA FINAL Review… They set up a digital drum kit, the lead singer looked like he was auditioning for a part in The Blues Brothers and they began with a rather strong, what you'd call energetic, anthemic indie song that sounded pretty good. Then, second track, another song that was a bit slower, certainly more faceless, and by now you're wondering where it's all gonna go. Then - without warning - the singer announces that we're all going "Nightclubbing", sets off a digital drum programme, which ADDS to the drummer at the back, the bass pounds, the guitar explodes, the singer lets rip and the roof of the building takes off. The crowd went wild, we all stood up to let our jaws drop on the ground as this incendiary slice of industrial strength funk-rock just tore the place apart. Put this track in any concert hall, anywhere, and the place is jumping - guaranteed, no word of a lie - just friggin'awesome. Forget the rest of the set, just play me "Nightclubbin' all night long. But then they only went and did it again for the final track and not a person in the building was standing still. Dunno what that second track was all about, but with pieces like the last two dominating a full set, this band could tear their way through concert halls and night clubs from Land's End to John O'Groats - fantastic and then some!! ..> Capstin Pole + Kasabian gig Review gig review Kasabian - Capstin pole Liquid Room 21 days ago Band show fight but lack bite ROCK REVIEW DAVID POLLOCK Kasabian ** Liquid Room INTRODUCING a freshly-written tune entitled 55, Kasabian lead singer Tom Meighan announced that it was the sort of song which may inspire you to get into a fight. Unless you're in the Rolling Stones circa 1968, it might be hoped that most new songwriters would be looking for a little more inventive results from their music. Still, the statement did neatly sum up the Kasabian sound - a blend of guitars, samples and hoarsely-wailed vocals which falls somewhere in between the adrenalin-fuelled and the clodhopping. This low-key show by the band undoubtedly won them new fans among the sort of crowd who would doubtless have enjoyed the Happy Mondays or Primal Scream - or similarly-influenced local support Capstin Pole. But despite the fact that songs like Processed Beats and Club Foot fairly bristled with the release of pent-up male tension, the wirily handsome quintet didn't have the inspiration to go with the acceleration.-Capstin pole the support band showed the crowd how it was ment to be done with the scottish attitude in your face excitement.if bottled it would sell out in no time, one for the watching, capstin pole SINGLE REVIEW Music ..> ..> ..> Rick Fulton - Daily Record Single Review 21 days ago CAPSTIN POLE : IN THE WAY YOU MOVE its not unusal to hear dance pop in soundcheck but thats a refreshing change,in the way you move is a mash up of styles,Going from the bubblegum pop of ERASURE to the guitar-led pomp of the late DURAN DURAN. its like a softer EMF or THE SHAMEN,Certainly catchy,it has a driving bass and anthemic lyrics, such as"my baby lights up the dance floor" or "Everybody loves to dance" Rick Fulton - Daily Record soundcheck Razz review 0 Comments capstin pole gig review 156 days ago Band Number 4: Capstin Pole Ok, picture this. Happy Mondays mixed with Ian Brown and lots of soft, electro influences(the name of any band like that escapes me right now). Thats this band. I saw them on saturday night and they were monumental. Not only did their slower stuff sound great, they had me jumping up and down at the front of the gig like a god damn loon with their faster, groovier songs. Listen to them....i recommend xperium... Capstin pole - single review 163 days ago Capstin Pole Interesting one this. I caught a mention of them on Radio Forth just as their competition entry arrived. Its danceable, its funky and reminiscent in places of Duran Duran even! The vocals in particular. In The Way You Move has a smooth well produced feel and some cool guitarwork. Nightclubing 2007 takes the same route.. and even has some nah nahs at the end! This stuff fits into the Head Automatica routine of dancefloor-rock-pop-funk..hey they are covering all bases. Its memorable, well thought out and well played and good enough for any radio station. Dance music with guitars..ah yes, its good this one. |

Beecake :: 8 Track Stereo :: Look Left AgainI wasn't in attendance on this night, but was there at P In The Field (Patent Pending) where I first heard 8 Track live. I can only say that feel good grundge doesn't begin to depict the feel good vibe obtained from their music. All I can say is get yourselves to Edinburgh on Easter Sunday and feel what is a certain to be the rhythmic concoction of greater things to come. I am sailing the wrong direction and I cant get what I want, If you like, attend on Easter Sunday, use the force to find out where. You wont be dissapointed ! This may be the last chance to hear this band before they become £20+ a pop stadium fillers, I have that much faith in them. Everyone who goes ask for Muncie :) |

The Parlotones :: Luva AnnaDundee's currently frantic live scene has made hardly a ripple outside the city - with the exception of the View's success and a couple of dispatch mentions in the NME - and it would be a shame if it loses momentum before Luva Anna find fame. They're simply a brilliant band, and seeing them live in such a compact venue brought back memories, it's no exaggeration to say, of similarly-sized gigs by the Arctic Monkeys before they won widespread recognition. The young quartet - Drew Gray and Dave Webster sharing vocals and guitar, singularly named bassist Robs and drummer ''The Barrel'' Fisher - are natural raconteurs, and an hour spent with them feels like an induction meeting for their rather oddly-humoured gang. ''As with most of our songs,'' declares Gray at one point, ''this is about some'hing stupit''. He feels the set's going well, though, which is ''not bad considering 50 per cent of us were in bed an hour ago''. This is just after midnight. The music is fantastically off-the-wall, a loose approximation of the Coral colliding with the Pogues in its careening folk-rock energy, with Webster's impressive Jack White shriek balancing Gray's heavily-accented, earthier style. They sing love songs to comatose women ( Coma Girl ),paeans to a mate from Longforgan's courting ritual ( The Ballad of Boaby Smith) and - in the edgy DT rush of Sober and the furious, hilarious exorcism of old grudges that is Angry Fat Bouncer - songs which will ring truer than most others with their generation.David Pollock - The Scotsman |
